Treated FR Clothing Fabrics

Treated FR fabrics can be manufactured in one of two ways. They can be woven or knit from fibers of otherwise non-FR materials, such as cotton that are treated to make the fibers flame resistant. Or, more commonly, the fabric is woven or knit from flammable fibers, then the finished fabric is chemically treated to make it flame resistant. In either case, the end product is designed to withstand arc flash and flash fire events up to their specific FR ratings. Many wearers find treated cotton or other cellulosics more comfortable than inherent FR fabrics. Treated FR fabrics tend to be less expensive than inherent FR fabrics, and as due to advances in the treatment technology, the lifespan of treated FR fabric has been on the rise in recent years.
