Blended FR Clothing Fabrics
Blended FR fabrics are made using a combination of “inherent” fibers and “treated” fibers woven or knitted together. The inherent fibers are synthetic materials engineered to have their own flame resistant properties. Treated fibers are typically organic materials—cotton, for example—that are naturally flammable. The fibers are chemically treated to give them flame-resistant properties. The two types of fibers are blended together to create fabrics that have a combination of properties that would be difficult to achieve using inherent or treated fibers alone—for instance lightweight AND durable.
